Exciting and at the same time terrifying things are happening to me these days and I can’t wait to see where things lead me. May probably will be a slow reading month as a lot of things are going on, so bear with me. On the other hand, I’ll catch up with reviews, so yay!
Book titles are linked to their Goodreads pages!
Books I plan to read in May
- Tides of Mana by Matt Larkin
- The Ghost Hunter’s Daughter by Caroline Flarity

Other bookish plans
SPFBO Interviews
My SPFBO interviews will go on, there are still a few finalists left I haven’t made an interview with yet. There are only 2 left, so probably it won’t be much secret who will be up last but not least: Devin Madson and Mike Shel.
The Questioning
Probably I don’t have to introduce this feature anymore. I’ll have an author and a blogger hosted again in May. The Author Edition will be… fun.
Wyrd and Wonder
This year I joined to the Wyrd and Wonder movement, celebrating fantasy. I’ve been quiet on this and I’m sorry, but I’ve been trying to keep my head above water and all. I’m planning to write some posts to go with the theme, though honestly, every month is a fantasy month for me. I’m not quite sure what topic I’ll pick, but I have a few things in mind. I’ll get into the celebration, I promise!
Other plans
Change of Life
May probably will be a huge milestone in my life. If you follow me on twitter you know already that I’m complaining a lot about my job. Back at the start of the year I decided that I’m going to take my life into my hands and will work toward changing it for the better. As slowly everything started to pile up and I kept being frustrated with work, with my life not being the way I wanted it, not having enough time for things I really wanted to do, it affected my mental health, and I think it affects my sleeping as well. I’ve been thinking for a while now how to change things. First I decided to look for another job – I already applied to a few places in the UK – and looked for ways to switch a career to something closer publishing, and with that I decided to resign by the end of summer. But that’s too far away, so I needed a better solution. I’m going to ask for a change in my contract from 40hrs work a week to 30hrs. It’ll leave me with enough breathing room to start getting small jobs, build up experience and see if anything comes out of my job applications. It’ll also help me to switch gradually and leaves me with a back up plan. If things come to worse, I can use this extra time to enroll an online editing course to learn even more. It probably won’t be easy, and this also means that I’m losing money until I can have a steady side income. At least this is the plan for now, and although I’m excited, I have a lot of doubts and insecurities regarding whether I can pull this off or not. First, I have to talk to my boss to see what she says to this change…
Show(s) I’m attending
To relieve some of the stress I’m having about this change and in general, at the end of the month, I’m going to see my favourite Hungarian band. They will celebrate their 20th birthday (I’ve known them for almost 10 years, damn, I’m old…) so it’s gonna be a huge party. I’m really looking forward to that one. Ironically I started the month with a huge party (my cousin’s wedding) and will end it with another one.
Eurovision
And since we are talking about music, May is Eurovision month! I decided to dedicate this month’s Music Diggin’ Friday posts to this event, with some lists. It’s a fun event and so why not have fun while it lasts? It only happens once in a year anyway.
Well, I think that’s it. Follow me if you like either on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram (I don’t have much content on that platform yet)!
Good luck with all the new job applications. Happy reading.
Thank you! 🙂
Hallo, Hallo Timy!
Thanks for the s/o mention of #WyrdAndWonder on Twitter!! 🙂 I’ve added you to our Master Archive – I’m also going to set-up a s/o tweet for you to run on the morrow so others can find you and give you some encouraging words! I love how you said every month is a month you celebrate Fantasy — I originally wanted to help either start or co-host an event championing works of Fantasy as my heart is equally divided between Science Fiction & Fantasy; I’ve been joining #RRSciFiMonth since its inception in 2013 and I was wicked thrilled I could help create/co-host #WyrdAndWonder with Lisa and Imyril since 2018. This is our 2nd year and we’re thrilled to have you – in whichever capacity you can join us. Whether that’s through posting or sharing the love on your blog/social channels or replying to other people’s posts or tweets – whichever way you want to join us rocks!
I do understand how life can interfere with your plans – I’ve been migraine-free since early March, so the supernova one which alighted in my life this past weekend was blindsiding – it also affected my first reviews from being featured but I’m not going to let it get me down. Each new day is a new day to celebrate why I love this event and everything it brings to our life…
I can’t wait to visit with you – this May and afterwards as I am dearly underread in Fantasy! My TBR for Fantasy is about to topple into itself! lol
Thorn of the Night Blossoms looked interesting – I’m co-hosting a readathon celebrating Asian Lit/Fantasy with Ari (@SouffleLumiere) which I’ll be announcing during #WyrdAndWonder (either this week or next) — so that looked like something I’d love to seek out.
In regards to life/work/creating positive change – something I can also relate too. Do what you need to do which is best for you. We all strive towards finding better balance in our lives but also, sometimes it is the things we need to change which are the hardest because their anchoured to things we need in our lives (like jobs, etc). I will be thinking about you this month and hoping things start to not just improve but get you on a path which will be better for you in the long-term. Positives vibes are yours!
Here’s to a rockin’ #WyrdAndWonder! And it was lovely to ‘meet’ you through the event!
Hi Jorie!
Finally got around to answer… Well, you are welcome, though in all honesty, I remembered in the last minute to add Wyrd and Wonder to the post, lol. It’s been the end of the day when I wrote the post, you see… I read fantasy in 95% of the time, so I guess my statement is accurate 😀 Science-fiction is not really close to my heart, but I just got Rosewater so I’m willing to give it a try. Thanks for the warm welcome! I wanted to plan ahead, but, yeah, life got in the way but as you could read in the post I’m on my way to change this, so hopefully I’ll be better at making my plans to happen, lol.
I think Thorn of the Night Blossoms would be good for that, it’s a short book though, more like a novella than a novel. As for Asian inspired fantasy, I can recommend Devin Madson’s novels, Steve Bein’s Fated Blades series, Kay Villoso’s books (I haven’t read them, but my friends like them, she is from the Philippines and writes fantasy based on her culture). Devin and Kay are self-published and recently got picked by publishers.
Thanks for your kind words! I’m sure hoping this change will help improve things. Time will tell. I’m happy to get to know you as well! 🙂
I cannot wait till you review Lamb. I love that book!
One of my all time favourite books! I reread it about once a year or so. It’s about high time I reviewed it and kept putting it off although I already have it half written. I’ll get to it soon for sure!
Mine too. It makes me laugh just thinking about it. I did a review not to long ago on it because I love it so much. More people should read Moore’s stuff.
