A Week in My Head

A Week in My Head: Entry 5

A Week in My Head is some kind of journal of all the things that went on in my head the past week. Be it succes, struggle or just some random ramblings. I know it doesn’t replace professional counselling, but this is my kind of therapy – talking it out of myself in this way. Join me if you want and feel free to share your experiences. I’m sure we can learn from each other and A Week in My Head will be a less lonely time.

Apologies for not posting last week, but I just didn’t really feel like to sit down and get a long post out of myself and honestly I didn’t have anything interesting to say. Sure, I could have reflected on some events that kept book Twitter on fire for a couple of days, but pretty much everything was said about that and I just wanted to move on as I was tired of the whole conversation. Meh. I was thinking about writing a post about my thoughts regarding social media followers and such, but I was just really not in the mood. I will still write that one someday though.

My Big Day

You are probably well aware of the fact – as I couldn’t shut up about it – that this week was my birthday week. And yes, I celebrate a whole week – actually a whole month, but let’s just pretend I’m not that vain. For years I always wanted a big birthday party with friends and stuff, and although I did manage organising one or two – I just had to admit I don’t have enough friends to pull that off. Some years I only had a dinner with a friend and his actual girlfriend and some years we had an extra one or two people, but generally my birthday celebration never was really exciting as I wanted them.

As I got older and had even less people around me – I finished with universities and I hardly stayed in contact with anyone – I decided I won’t be sitting around feeling sorry for myself. So, I started to plan travellings around my birthday. It started in 2016 when me and my parents went to bath city here in Budapest for a couple of days. In 2017 I wanted to go somewhere abroad. By that time I really was yearning for a trip like that – after my US stay in 2014 I grew restless and wanted to see more of the world. I wanted to visit a country I’ve never been to before – which wasn’t hard, considering I’ve only been in a hadnful ofcountries up to that point – a place which wasn’t cold as hell in February. Long story short, my aim was Greece but due to some circumstances, my pick fell on Naples, Italy. I spent a  great week there visiting Pompeii and the Amalfi-coast and taking long walks in the old city.

2018 rolled around with my 30th birthday and I wanted something special. London was always at the back of my mind. I could visit it briefly in 2010, but we mostly ran through it visiting the most touristy sites. I wanted more. By that time my English pas pretty good too, so I knew I’ll be fine. I booked a guided tour to the Harry Potter studio, because let’s face it, you can’t get a cooler birthday than that and had an evening drink with an indie author friend of mine – mind you this was all before I started the blog. I also met my cousine for the first time since we were little kids. I’d rather not go into the details of our family life, but let’s just say we had a good time. Although I had a series of bad luck that week, I was full of energy and good feelings when I came home. I think that trip probably had a good part in my decision a couple of weeks later to try my hand at blogging.

Last year I had plans to spend a week in the UK again, but those plans fall apart due to (un)expected events. Instead, I went to the Murder exhibition (which was meh) and bought some expensive colouring pencils with which I fell in love.

This year I didn’t have much planned mostly due to finances – last year I had a lot of travelling – but I remembered a friend of mine ones said she and her family would like me to visit them so I decided to took her up on the offer. So, I’ll spend next weekend in the UK and I’m damn excited about it.

As of my actual birthday, I went to see the Banksy exhibition. A couple of weeks ago I learned it comes to Budapest and since I LOVE his art, it was a no brainer that I had to get a ticket. Duh. Needless to say I had a good day all things considered and though I would have liked to get a drink or something afterwards with a friend, I really don’t have much complains. Just look at this awesomeness:

Another Birthday On The Horizon

As for the rest of the week… I had some ups and downs, mostly thanks to my own idiocy and stubbornness. Although February is traditionally my birthday month where I try to do a lot of fun things to keep myself entertained, this year my mind is on the blog. The second anniversary is coming up in March and I already have a few plans in motion. I’d rather not talk about this much, but I can reveal that there are going to be two new features and I’m really excited about both of them. I think it’s going to be fun for you guys too. One other thing I’m planning is to redesign the blog. I’m not quite sure how much, but there are going to be new feature images and a tiny bit redesigned logo. Probably not before the anniversary, but sometime soon I plan to move the blog to somewhere else so there is going to be a whole new look.

But of course I can’t plan anything without running into stupid mistakes. I spent a couple of weeks on a good idea to redesign my feature images, and annoyed the hell out of a friend of mine who used to be a graphic designer, until he just honestly told me they never going to be as good as my current ones. I’m not gonna lie, it broke me. Even if I asked for honesty and didn’t expect anything less, and I knew that they weren’t good enough, it still hurt to accept I wasted so much time on it and I couldn’t make it work. I guess my biggest issue was giving up on it, because I’m just not that type of person. But I had to let it go, and the next day the problem kinda solved itself, so now I’m ready to move on. And can focus on other problems I managed to create for myself *nervous laugh* I know in the end things will turn out just fine and the blog will look more awesome than ever, and I can’t wait to see the final result. Until then, UK here I come again!
