Storytellers On Tour is a Blog/Instagram Tour organising service. It was born out of Justine’s (Whispers & Wonder) and my love and dedication toward SFF indie books and authors. Our goal is to give as much exposure to our clients as we can, while we also build a community among our Roadies. Find out more about us on www.storytellersontour.online!
This past week we gave the spotlight to Finding Your Harpy Place, the stand alone sequel novel to Harpyness is Only Skin Deep by D.H. Willison in celebration of its release! Our Roadies brought several great posts on this bookstagram tour. Now it’s time to bring the show to an end and it’s my pleasure to present you with the encore, including some extra content. Come and learn a bit more about the world of Finding Your Harpy Place through our Q&A!
Shall we?
D.H. Willison is a reader, writer, game enthusiast and developer, engineer, and history enthusiast. He’s lived around the world, absorbing history, culture, and food. Actually he’s eaten the food. It has been verified that he is a complex, multicellular life form. Fascinated by nature, technology, and history, and especially anything that can put all three of these together, he has an annoying habit of dragging his wife to the most unromantic destinations imaginable, including outdoor museums, authentic castle dungeons, the holds of tall ships, and even the tunnels of the Maginot Line.
Life is a journey. On Arvia, it’s a perilous one.
Darin, a human of extraordinary unimpressiveness, astounded observers by surviving his first year on the mythical world of Arvia. His training and equipment may be questionable, but at least his best friend, Rinloh, an accident-prone harpy the size of a three-story building, is willing to lend a hand. Or a wing. Yet when an ancient magic artifact leaves a trail of chaos in its wake, it’s no longer just the giant mythical monsters he has to worry about.
Rinloh, a harpy whose unbridled enthusiasm leads to the occasional sundry destruction, charges into things talons first. Her curiosity is as insatiable as her flockmate’s appetite for human flesh, yet she can’t protect Darin from them until she becomes full-fledged. Regrettably, the test is a human hunt.
A distant forest may hold answers to both quests, yet who dares venture where even harpies fear tread?
Life is a journey. Sometimes the most important journeys are within.
Finding Your Harpy Place, a new adventure on Arvia, a beautiful world filled with colorful, larger-than-life characters and ravenous mythical monsters more colorful and larger still. Experience it from the safety of your favorite armchair.

“This book is SOMETHING different. I can’t tell you how happy it makes me to stumble upon a gem like this. It’s ACTUALLY one-of-a-kind, witty, intelligently written, and undeniably unputdownable (yes, I’m pretty sure I made that word up).😁“
Welcome to the Asylum, David! Take a seat by the fire, have a glass of beverage of your choice and tell me something about yourself!
Why thank you. *pours a tall glass of porter* This is actually not my first time in an asylum! I once had a weekend getaway for my birthday, and stayed in the Olmsted Asylum, a historic asylum in Buffalo, NY. OK, it had been converted to a hotel at the time, but was still pretty cool! And several of the ghosts played a mean game of backgammon. https://www.onlyinyourstate.com/new-york/buffalo/haunted-asylum-buffalo/
What inspires your writing? Do you listen to music, stare into the fire, listen to the whispering of the wind, make deals with the Devil?
You know in detective films when they have those walls with photos and newspaper clippings and strands of red yarn connecting them all? That’s pretty much my process.
My stories are highly character driven, so I start with the main characters and then just brainstorm what needs to happen to them to push them to develop further. Then what could happen to them (because it would either be really cool or hilarious–or both). And finally, what could happen in the world around them. Once I have a big enough pool of ideas, I’ll start seeing connections between all the pieces, and the plot will come together. Either that, or I’ll run out of red yarn.
Describe an asylum set in the world of your book, Finding Your Harpy Place!
With magic being mysterious and unpredictable, such facilities must be located far, far from populated areas. The most infamous of these is the Shadowbone Keep, deep in the emerald shoals. The desolate stone and timber structure juts like a broken tusk from the tropical landscape. While on their three hour daily exercise breaks, inmates must contend with numerous deadly threats, such as giant conch shells along the white sand beaches that present a severe tripping hazard. A program of rehabilitation through hard labor; frequently entailing the creation of sketches or sculptures is strictly enforced, while the evening meal; shish-kebabs of game and tropical tubers is frequently accompanied by margaritas served in unevenly salted glasses–
What? I totally didn’t look ahead and find out I’m going to be locked up there!
Your MC is locked in an asylum. What did he/she do to end up there?
Consorting with a predator. Normally a capital crime. Yet statements he made during his interrogation led to the asylum.
“But she’s friendly, really!”
“A harpy? Friendly? You’re clearly mentally deranged. Off to Shadowbone Keep with you.”
Which fictional character (it can be one of yours) and/or author would you like to live with in an asylum and why?
Probably Aahz, the green-skinned demon from the Myth series. He may be grumpy, but he’s got a lot of stories to tell.
While you are locked in here for eternity, we will allow you one book – what would you choose?
Lockpicking for Dummies.
Well then, we hope you’ll enjoy your stay in the Asylum! Any last words? locks door
