Monthly Wrap Up: January 2021

I got to review (again), the most excellent second book of Devin Madson’s series. The third is coming this summer, so be sure to catch up until then.

My first read of the year was a True Crime book about serial killers. I also started the year off by binging Mindhunter on Netflix which was based on these guys’ similarly titled book. Great stuff.

“This book is definitely informative, but I was just missing something that would make it stand out. But The Killer Across the Table definitely gives us a look into the process and if nothing else, makes us realize that profiling is not for the faint-hearted. That and real life is a whole lot different than crime TV shows.”

Jen took part in Storytellers On Tour’s book tour for The Part About The Dragon Was (Mostly) True and quite enjoyed this Comic Fantasy.

“Goofy fun. Sit back and let yourself be entertained, as our little adventuring group bickers their way through some very messy situations in their quest to make a name for themselves.”

Ahead of the release of the final book of the Los Nefilim series, Jen and myself reviewed it to tell you how awesome it is.

There’s nothing Sarilla hates more than stealing memories, but the king forces her to take them to keep his subjects in line. She wants to escape to where nobody knows what she is or what she can do, but her plans go awry when she runs into Falon.

Falon has a six month void in his memories that he’s desperate to restore. He doesn’t know why they were taken or what they contained, nor why the man he loves is acting so cagily about what happened during that time. He hopes to use Sarilla to get back his stolen memories and doesn’t care what she wants or why she’s desperate to escape. She will help him get them back, whether she wants to or not.

Born in London in 1972, Shaun spent his formative years in the shadows of the dreaming spires of Oxford, before moving to Nottingham where he graduated university with a degree in English and Media. Navigating a path through music, art and the internet, writing came calling and he soon found himself firmly ensconced in alternate realities and gritty fantasy worlds. He has written several books to date. Shaun lives in Brighton, on the south coast of England, where he splits his time between his fiction and family life.

Justin spent 15 years as a professional writer and editor before his debut novel, Carpet Diem, was published in 2015. It became a best-seller and won a 2018 Audie award. His second book, The Lost War, was shortlisted in the 2019 Booknest Awards and is a finalist in the 2020 SPFBO competition.

Since 2018 he has been writing full time, alongside working on scripts with his wife, Juliet, who he met through a BBC scriptwriting contest.
