Meet the Author
Jeffrey L. Kohanek

Jeffrey L. Kohanek grew up in rural Minnesota where comic books sparked his young imagination, inspiring fantasies of heroes with super-powers saving the day. His tastes later evolved to fantasy epics featuring unlikely heroes overcoming impossible odds to save worlds born from the writer’s imagination.

Now residing in southern California, Jeff uses that imagination to weave tales of engaging characters caught in fantastic plots to inspire young adults and the child within us all.

Book Blurb
God King Rising by Jeffrey L. Kohanek

A stirring rebellion. Unrelenting assassins. Conspiracies abound.

Two queens.

One rules by fear, her citizens laboring to fund the lavish lifestyle of the wizard class. The other believes in justice and compassion, earning her the love of her subjects…and the enmity of her wizard peers.

Both will die.

In one wizardom, a secret rebellion brews. A hero to the people rises, fueled by a mysterious sorcerer’s blood magic. But at what cost?

Conspiracies and assassins lurk in every shadow, threatening the throne of another nation. The scheming wizard behind it will stop at nothing to claim the crown. Yet, even he is a pawn.

What force is behind it all? What is their endgame?

Out of This World SFF – review

“I did really enjoy this book and for most of it I was totally sucked in. If you are looking for a read that is fast-paced, filled with lots of escapes and battles, and gives you a Terry Brooks vibe with a dash of Dragonlance thrown into the mix, then you will likely find GOD KING RISING your cup of tea.”

“There’s multiple story lines and multiple povs but they all converge towards the end. The writing is beautiful. They are heroes in this story, definitely. But they are not over normal heroes. They are almost anti-heroes, if I may. And that’s what I particularly liked about this book. If you like magic and wizards, then this is definitely for you.”

Westveil Publishing – review

“God King Rising is a surprisingly short book for the epic fantasy subgenre, but man does it pack a punch! This book is full of edge-of-your-seat cinematic action that will not let you even think of feeling bored. Kohanek is a seasoned author in the genre, and it shows.”

“The best thing that I liked here was definitely there were a lot of female characters who had played huge roles. Here we had queens, pirates, heroines, as well as villains. Each had interesting and memorable personalities. Also, the diversity of characters was very prominent.”

I Can Has Books – review

“God King Rising is intriguing with conspiracies’, rebellion, some romance, magic, elves and dwarves. A quick read with an ending that will make you want to pick the next book, or if you are like me all the previous ones too.
It is very clear that Jeffrey L. Kohanek knows what he is doing with his books, I sense a well thought out storyline and world. I feel he knows his endgame and there will much much more in store for his characters and us the readers. I will enjoy the ride.”

Q&A in the Asylum
Welcome to the Asylum, Jeffrey! Take a seat by the fire, have a glass of beverage of your choice and tell me something about yourself!

*Grabs a bottle of Hanger 24 Orange Wheat, pours it into a glass, and sits down with a smile on his face.*

It’s nice to meet you, Timy. As a life-long fan of epic fantasy, I have found my calling in crafting stories in the genre. My first novel, The Buried Symbol, published in 2016, and I have written nearly 2 Million words since. I love being an author, and I adore my fans.

What inspires your writing? Do you listen to music, stare into the fire, listen to the whispering of the wind, make deals with the Devil?

I find myself inspired by everything ranging from the books I have read to movies I enjoy to real life experiences. I often listen to rock music while I write, and it gets me pumped up. Rather than distracting me, the music fades into the background as the words flow out, onto the page. I hike a lot and often muse about upcoming chapters while climbing a mountain or scrambling up an outcropping of rock.

Describe an asylum set in the world of your book, God King Rising!

There is a chamber, deep beneath the earth, in the halls of the dwarven city, Ghen Aeldor. Glowing, amber striations in the stone walls provide light. There is no door, nor window, nor tunnel. In one corner, trickling water fills a pool, from which you can drink. At different times on different days, a hidden panel will open in the wall to deliver food. You remain alone in this chamber…until you die.

Your MC is locked in an asylum. What did he/she do to end up there?

Jerrell Landish, also known as Jace, is the self-proclaimed best thief in the Eight Wizardoms. While his snarky, glib tongue might land him there, he is more likely to find himself a guest due to his outlandish antics and flair for the dramatic. In this case, he was caught masquerading as a woman to infiltrate an all-female convent in the mountains, where he sought to reclaim an enchanted bodice. They locked him up, thinking he was insane.

Which fictional character (it can be one of yours) and/or author would you like to live with in an asylum and why?

I am going with Jerrell/Jace Landish again. Not only would he be a highly entertaining companion, he is also the most likely to find a means to escape and I’d flee with him.

divider
While you are locked in here for eternity, we will allow you one book – what would you choose?

I am going to cheat and go with Wheel of Time. Yes, it is fourteen long books, but it is a single series. I am fascinated by the world and cast Jordan built and would happily return again and again.

divider
Well then, we hope you’ll enjoy your stay in the Asylum! Any last words? *locks door*

I hope readers enjoy their stay in the world of Wizardoms. Nine books already exist in that world and more are coming soon.
