Book Blurb
Katy of Clay by U.L. Harper

Sometimes, to truly live, you need to die a little.

Katy’s father claims he created her out of special clay, literally with his hands. Adding that she will soon slip into another world because of it does not make his assertion any less farfetched, not even to a highly creative art student such as her. Nevertheless, she suddenly finds herself in that other world with nothing more than skills as an artist and her father’s insistence she travel across this incredible landscape to an old family refuge.

Not long into the journey, she discovers the inhabitants are fleshy ghosts forced to perpetually relive murder and suicide. It is in this violent environment where she comes to terms with an unusual benefit of her artistic talent—with it, she can free ghosts from their deaths.

In this reality bending tale of magical realism and horror, Katy will learn answers to questions she has never been brave enough to ponder, all while traveling through a bizarre world with only a sketchbook and pen to defend herself.

“he book talks about the harsh truths about reality, afterlife, death, addiction, and suicide. While I believe that this is a great read, make sure that this is your cup of tea before you begin. The graphic details and the repetition of some situations can be a little too much for certain people.”

Q&A in the Asylum
Welcome to the Asylum, U.L.! Take a seat by the fire, have a glass of beverage of your choice and tell me something about yourself!

*Grabs a bottle of Hanger 24 Orange Wheat, pours it into a glass, and sits down with a smile on his face.*

I’ve been at this writing game for a while now. Started out doing literary fiction, and find myself going back that direction after I make this pitstop at horror and dark fantasy.

divider
What inspires your writing? Do you listen to music, stare into the fire, listen to the whispering of the wind, make deals with the Devil?

Everything inspires me. Nature, people, just normal folks standing at stop signs smoking cigarettes. Trauma inspires me. Love is inspirational. Death can certainly inspire. Laughter can do the trick, too. Many of the arts get my wheels turning. And, oh, whiskey. Neat.

Describe an asylum set in the world of your book, Katy of Clay!

To be honest, the whole place is nothing but a long list of infinite asylums where ghosts need to relive the trauma that caused the end of their lives. So, every block or so is a repetitive murder or suicide of fleshy ghosts.

divider
Your MC is locked in an asylum. What did he/she do to end up there?

Ripped her dad to pieces. That might have done it. Watching that kid get killed could have done it to most people. Maybe not Katy, though.

divider
Which fictional character (it can be one of yours) and/or author would you like to live with in an asylum and why?

Oh, I will certainly go with Katy from Katy of Clay. She has that notebook where she can draw pictures that we can live through…and escape. Can’t imagine a better partner than her.

divider
While you are locked in here for eternity, we will allow you one book – what would you choose?

Imajica. That book is scarier than it looks and every time I crack it open it seems to mean something different. I don’t think I’ve read it back to front in about 20 years or something like that.

divider
Well then, we hope you’ll enjoy your stay in the Asylum! Any last words? *locks door*
