Like last year, the Asylum ladies are sharing their top 10 reads of 2021 in a sequence of 3 posts. Today Arina closes the curtain on this spotlight. You’ll notice some of these books weren’t actual 2021 releases, as the only rule we had for our top reads was that we had to have read them in 2021, regardless of their release date. Because it’s never too late to discover a favorite or a genre-behemoth you are just now learning to love.
Throughout the year, I’ll dig deeper into the prompts of The Sound of Madness Reading Challenge 2022. I’ll talk about the music, the prompt and recommend about 5 books I think would go well with it. The prompt of the week: The Stories We Tell Ourselves.

The Sound of Madness Reading Challenge is back! I’m probably the only one who is excited by this, but oh well. I had a lot of fun with both coming up with prompts (all music-related!) and then fulfilling them throughout the year in 2021, so I decided to have another go at it. I had a couple of walks down memory lane while I put this post together, so I hope you’ll create your own ones by reading books and listening to great music this year!
Now that I’m going back to work starting on January 3rd, I decided it was time to go back to having a bullet journal again in 2022. So I sat down this December to plan it all out. And now I show you what I achieved!
I hardly take part in reading challenges in general, but as I was creating The Ultimate Tour Experience for Storytellers on Tour, I had way too much fun with coming up with prompts. So much so, that I kept thinking into the night about songs and bands that would make awesome prompts. The next day The Sound of Madness Reading Challenge came to life. Titled after an also great song by Shinedown. Now with a final update!
October kicked in the door and I thought it’s high time for me to gather some books set in an asylum. And so here comes 10 of them covering a wide spectrum of genres, both self-published and trad published. I think everyone will find one to interest them.
