Pride Nights at Queen’s: Lyra Wolf — Loki in Fishnets

Alas, June comes to an end, another month flew by and we couldn’t have asked the gods for a better post to wrap up an awesome month. If that title didn’t get you then all hope eludes you.

Closing the curtain on Pride Month (though, stay tuned—this isn’t it for Pride Nights!), author Lyra Wolf dives into Loki’s queerness, which she explored in her fantasy series The Nine Worlds Rising.

Bjørn Larssen author spotlight

Pride Nights at Queen’s: Bjørn Larssen — We Exist

As we near the end of the month, we look back in gratitude to the authors who’ve made Pride Nights at Queen’s possible. Looking back is as much a part of Pride as looking forward, but in our struggle to build a better future, we make the mistake of shunning the hurtful past, disdaining those who pave the way for our liberation. Often, in our ignorance and fear, we forget them. Today, we remember them.

Pride Nights at Queen’s welcomes Bjørn Larssen, with a fantastic guest post about his experiences of both the past, present, and future of queer.

Krystle Matar guest post

Pride Nights at Queen’s: Krystle Matar — Out

There’s only one universal truth about Pride: it’s not the same for everyone. It can be joyful, terrifying, messy, none, both, all of the above. Most of all, whatever Pride is to you, it’s yours. And whatever yours is, it’s got a place in the community. Day 5 of Pride Nights at Queen’s is proud to celebrate that, proud to celebrate the people who make our community something immense, something ours. Read what guest Krystle Matar has to share, and don’t forget to check out her awesome new release, Legacy of the Brightwash!

C.M. Caplan guest post

Pride Nights at Queen’s: C.M. Caplan — Spectrums

Pride was never about labels nor an obligation to define oneself. In the age of the internet, where everything and everyone is connected and boundaries are more often than not violently trespassed, it is sometimes easy to let ourselves forget that. I hope today’s Pride Nights at Queen’s post, written by author C.M. Caplan, helps you realize the vastness of the queer experience, and somehow inspires you, whether you relate to it or not, to uphold the tenets of Pride: multitude, acceptance —especially— of the unfamiliar, respect.

Brittany M. Willows interview

Pride Nights at Queen’s: An interview with Brittany M. Willows

Video games, anime, and cat boys. Who doesn’t love them? (If you don’t, get outta here! Obviously just kidding but I don’t trust you. Again, kidding. We all deserve to have bad taste once in a while and I respect you for that). Day three of Pride Nights at Queen’s welcomes Brittany M. Willows, author, illustrator, and thus, overall badass. Read our chat to find more about Bloody Spade, Brittany’s upcoming book, and the inspirations behind it.

Monthly Wrap Up June

Monthly Wrap Up: June 2020

Hoo boy, June was A MONTH. And we are only halfway through 2020. It started with me working my ass off to get the blog ready for the moving. That is, we moved RockStarlit BookAsylum from Wordpress.com to a self-hosted Wordpress site and if I can say so, it looks fucking great. Which is only fair, as I worked more on this than I care to admit. On the day before the final move I basically sat before my screen for 12 hours straight to make sure everything is as it should be. And that was only the last day. But thankfully everything went well and to celebrate we announced our newest staff member, Arina! I’m excited she joined us and I hope the blog will be only better for it 🙂

Written in Narrative — Does A Protagonist’s Queer Identity Matter?

Excited to bring you my 1st post on the Asylum, and giving an honorable mention to this eventful month of Pride, this post will dive into the memorable worlds of SFF as well as giving voice to more personal thoughts regarding queer identity, literature, and its intersections. Sit back, agree, disagree, and try to ignore the screeching damned-souls in the background. They’re excellent residents but not entirely quiet.

Monthly Wrap Up

Monthly Wrap Up: June 2019

June was a pretty great month all things considered. I was supposed to take this month easier and have a break, but ended up not doing that. Until I was forced to realised that I indeed needed a break and the last few days of the month was all about relaxing and doing anything other than reading. It was nice. It was my first month being only half employed at my workplace and OMG I LOVE working only 4 hours. The first two weeks made wonders to my mental health and I’m so happy I made this decision.

Pride Month

Pride Month: RainBook Recs – Part 2

We thought it would be fun to do a little something in recognition of Pride Month here at Rockstarlit BookAsylum. So, I went through and picked books that I had enjoyed that had some LGBTQ content, and matched the pride flag to the dominate color of the covers, with varying degrees of luck.
