    Jen's Top 10 Reads of 2021

Like last year, we once again decided to post 3 separate top 10 reads of 2021 lists instead of one mega-list or one with only a couple of picks each. Which, let's face it, would be downright cruelty to ourselves. Our only rule was that any book on these lists has to be read during 2021, regardless of when they were published and by whom. And we had to love them, obviously. Maybe. I mean, when you keep shouting at the author in private for things they did, it's surely a sign of love, right? Even if you call said author names... *ahem* Anyway next up is Jen with her…

    Monthly Wrap Up March

In March we celebrated our 3rd anniversary as well as Storytellers On Tour's first one. We've managed to read and review books, continued with the SPFBO Finals, finished the first SPFBO Special Edition To Be Continued story, revealed covers, toured with books and showed off others.

    Monthly Wrap Up February

Is it just me or February really just lasted for a blink? I was so occupied with stuff, that halfway through the month I completely forgot that it was my birthday month and didn't have as much fun as I would have liked. That's not saying I didn't have any fun ar that I didn't have a great birthday month, because I did. But I was just too focused on the coming blog anniversary and other things I'm working on behind the scenes. Oops.

  • 10 Books Featuring Kids in Adult Fiction

    May 26, 2019 /

As I'm reading Priest of Lies by Peter McLean currently, and one of my favorite characters happen to be Billy the Boy, a 14 year old lad, I started to think about books where children were not only side characters but had an important role. As I'm mostly reading adult fiction I went and looked at those books to pick 10 - which, let me tell you is a challenge.

    Monthly Wrap Up

Since I've whined enough how much my personal life sucked in January, this time I'll take mercy on you all. Reading wise it was a productive month, but a very mixed one. And since I'm very behind on reviews, not everything will be featured in this post.

Where Loyalties Lie by Rob J. Hayes

If you love grimdark, you look for a book with self-absorbed pirates, plenty of action, blood and adventure, then Where Loyalties Lie is for you. It's witty, it's brutal, it's bloody, it's dark and it's impossible to put down. There is plenty of rum, fight, plotting against each other, secrets well-kept, magic and interesting enough characters.

The Queen has captured you sneaking around in her home, but she is in a merciful mood. She has allowed you to go free on the condition that you brave the ancient ruins and find her missing cloak clasp. It is in the shape of her most beloved animal. She no longer likes to go there, because she is convinced that there are magical goings-on in the ruins that are not of this world.
