Music Monday: Kylie Said to Jason by The KLF

Music Monday is a meme that was created by Drew from The Tattooed Book Geek. Bjørn and I will pick a song alternatively on each Monday and share our thoughts about them. Bjørn’s pick this week is Kylie Said to Jason by The KLF.

Thoughts and Ramblings

After scoring a cheese central #1 single with ‘Doctorin’ The Tardis’ as The Timelords (the official performer being Ford Timelord, i.e. an actual Ford Galaxie car), The KLF published a book, The Manual (How to Have a Number One the Easy Way. Their following releases – many, many pre-hit versions of ‘3am Eternal’ and ‘What Time is Love?’ – flopped. So they followed their own advice, taking Pet Shop Boys’ ‘Left to my own devices’ and adding…sliiightly quirky lyrics. The single, meant to provide budget to both the (unreleased, but available on YouTube) road and its soundtrack, both called The White Room, failed to enter the UK top 100. In what seems to be a supreme act of irony, Pet Shop Boys later used The Manual (consciously or not) to create what would become their last massive hit, ‘Go West’ which reached #2 in the UK, stopped by the eternal classics ‘Mr. Vain’ by Culture Beat and, um, ‘Boom! Shake the Room!’ by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince… as Kylie said to Jason, it’s all in the charts.

Song Lyrics

I’m gonna leave this party now
I’m gonna leave this party now
Oh, baby
Oh, baby

I was lying on the floor
With the music in my head
The Todd Terry Project
Was the last thing that I heard
I’d searched for the answer
There was not much to find
Then Kylie said to Jason
“It’s all in the mind”

Well, my mind was empty (party)
Had been for a while (party)
So I said to Kylie (party)
“Jason’s got some style” (party)

You got it, You got it
You got it, You got it
I’m gonna leave this party now
I’m gonna leave this party now

Trapped in a rerun
Of a seventies sitcom soap
“Some Mothers Do Have ‘Em”
Or “The Archie Bunker Show”
I was snogging with Felicity
“The Good Life” begins in bed
Richard was in the garden
Or I think that’s what she said

Then in walked Skippy (party)
The bush kangaroo (party)
Rolf singing “Sun Arise” (party)
And playing the didgeridoo (party)

You got it, You got it
You got it, You got it
I’m gonna leave this party now
I’m gonna leave this party now

But Jason said to Rockman
“The marriage was a sham”
With Angry singing “Suddenly”
And Kylie reading lamp
“Now me and Miss Kendall, we’ve got a thing going on
Billy Paul told us
We both know it’s wrong”

Don’t ask me (party)
If this party’s real or not (party)
Whatever I said (party)
Would just be proved wrong (party)

You got it, You got it
You got it, You got it
I’m gonna leave this party now
I’m gonna leave this party now
