Music Monday

Music Monday: Late Goodbye by Poets of the Fall

Music Monday is a meme that was created by Drew from The Tattooed Book Geek. Bjørn and I will pick a song alternatively on each Monday and share our thoughts about them. Timy’s pick this week is Late Goodbye by Poets of the Fall.

Thoughts and Ramblings

First off, sorry we didn’t have Music Monday posts in a while, this is entirely my fault. I was either busy or had zero motivation to do anything. I mean, my motivation level is still pretty low, but at least work calmed down a bit. I was also not really feeling any music – still don’t, I probably need something new. ANYWAY.

Autumn *finally* came to Budapest which means the temperature dropped below 30 AT LAST and we also have a rainy day. It kind of became a habit to listen to Revolution Roulette by Poets of the Fall, but since I already had that song up on the blog, I needed to pick a different one. I went for one of my other favorites, Late Goodbye. I think this might be one of the first songs that made them popular, because it was on the Max Payne 2 soundtrack list. Also it’s on their debut album, Signs of Life (which is a great one, btw.).

My history with Poets of the Fall goes WAY back when a friend showed me Revolution Roulette. I was absolutely hooked. I haven’t really picked them up in a while, but they still remain my go to band when I’m in a melancholic mood. I was lucky to see them live once when they came to Budapest a couple of years ago – even wrote a blog post about it – and I have their False Kings t-shirt which has a huge crown on it (funnily enough, this was a few months before I claimed my Queendom).

Song Lyrics

In our headlights, staring, bleak, beer cans, deer’s eyes
On the asphalt underneath, our crushed plans and my lies
Lonely street signs, powerlines, they keep on flashing, flashing by

And we keep driving into the night
It’s a late goodbye, such a late goodbye
And we keep driving into the night
It’s a late goodbye

Your breath hot upon my cheek, and we crossed, that line
You made me strong when I was feeling weak, and we crossed, that one time
Screaming stop signs, staring wild eyes, keep on flashing, flashing by

And we keep driving into the night
It’s a late goodbye, such a late goodbye
And we keep driving into the night
It’s a late goodbye

The devil grins from ear to ear when he sees the hand he’s dealt us
Points at your flaming hair, and then we’re playing hide and seek
I can’t breathe easy here, less our trail’s gone cold behind us
Till’ in the john mirror you stare at yourself grown old and weak

And we keep driving into the night
It’s a late goodbye, such a late goodbye…
