Music Monday is a meme that was created by Drew from The Tattooed Book Geek. Bjørn and I will pick a song alternatively on each Monday and share our thoughts about them. Bjørn’s pick this week is Entschuldigung! by Pet Shop Boys.
No, this song is not mainstream and does not sound like all other Pet Shop Boys songs (which, by the way, range from guitar rock through samba through classical music and ballet scores through 80s synthpop through 90s synthpop through 21st century synthpop through drum’n’bass through…) as evidenced by the lyrics below.
‘Entschuldigung!’ is a rather obscure b-side to a not-particularly successful single ‘Love is a bourgeois construct’ and a slightly sheepish apology to Berlin, where Chris Lowe and Neil Tennant lived for a few years and never progressed past the actual pronunciation of the lyrics below: ‘eeek neekt sprekoom Deutsch’ which is coincidentally half of my own fluency in German. (The other half is ‘ich bin niet vorbereitet’ – ‘I am not prepared’ – which I used many, many times during oral exams. In related news, I finished the high school with a near-perfect diploma featuring one awkward ‘barely pass’ next to the word ‘niemiecki’.
