Music Monday is a meme that was created by Drew from The Tattooed Book Geek. Bjørn and I will pick a song alternatively on each Monday and share our thoughts about them. Bjørn’s pick this week is Dreams (Todd Terry remix) by The Corrs.

‘Dreams’ is only one of the best songs ever. It has even gone viral recently, specifically, the deeply inferior original version by Fleetwood Mac. If you need me, I changed my name, got plastic surgery, and moved into a cave. Also I actually like Fleetwood Mac. But despite the venom of the lyrics – bands consisting of couples that split and hate each other’s guts and sing about it on stage while the resulting album sells gazillion copies apparently really put their all into the lyrics – the Fleetwood Mac version is sort of pleasantly flat, while the Corrs, remixed by Todd Terry, KICK ASS – really showing how amazing this song can be.
You’ll note there isn’t much ‘ooh ooh aah aah’ in this song. That would water the – brutal – message. There is a revenge roman-a-clef in those four minutes.

Now here you go again, you say you want your freedom
Well who am I keep you down
It’s only right that you should play the way you feel it
But listen carefully to the sound of your loneliness
Like a heartbeat drives you mad
In the stillness of remembering what you had
And what you lost
Yeah, thunder only happens when it’s raining
Players only love you when they’re playing
Yeah, women they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean, you’ll know, you’ll know
Now here I go again, I see the crystal visions
I keep my visions to myself
Well, it’s only me that wants to wrap around your dreams
And have you any dreams you’d like to sell
Dreams of loneliness
Like a heartbeat drives you mad
In the stillness of remembering what you had
And what you lost
Thunder only happens when it’s raining
Players only love you when they’re playing
Yeah, women they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean, you’ll know
Yeah, thunder only happens when it’s raining
Players only love you when they’re playing
Yeah, women they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean, you’ll know, you’ll know
You’ll know, you’ll know, you’ll know, you’ll know
