Music Monday is a meme that was created by Drew from The Tattooed Book Geek. Bjørn and I will pick a song alternatively on each Monday and share our thoughts about them. Timy’s pick this week is Aki Nem Vak by Tankcsapda.

Another one for my own entertainment, as 99% of you who read this blog can’t understand Hungarian. So, let me tell you a bit about Tankcsapda. They are probably the biggest rock band in Hungary, or at least the most popular. Their song Menyország Tourist was one of the first songs that hooked me on rock and roll for life. Coincidentally, it was also the song that got them on the map in Hungary, and they had become mainstream. This was back in 2000/2001. They had a couple of good albums after that, for example, Agyarország – which I think is probably their best, and the one Aki Nem Vak is from, but unfortunately, it was also the beginning of their decline. I mean, as they became more popular, their music mellowed out to reach a broader audience. I don’t think I’ve listened to any of their new stuff in a good few years now, because they are only shadows of themselves when it comes to both music and lyrics. Or maybe it’s me who changed.
Either way, whenever I do pick up their music, I always go for their older, rawer stuff. Provided, those songs’ themes and lyrics are anything but radio-friendly, so it’s not much of a wonder they switched gears. But back to Aki Nem Vak (Who Isn’t Blind). This song was released in 2001, and it’s scary how relevant it still is. Maybe more than back then. I think my favorite bit of the lyrics is where they basically say, “down with people, all hail the machine, one day he’ll come, welcome digital Christ.” Sounds eerie, huh, especially now that everything is overflowing with AI slop. The lyrics also talk about how the gap widens between the poor and the rich, about people warring. And as the refrain says, “life dances on a tightrope, with a deep chasm below”.

Aki nem vak látja mi a lényeg
A szegény minden nap szegényebb
Aki gazdag az meg tovább hízik
Itt már senki senkiben nem bízik
Aki nem vak annak tiszta az ábra
Itt mindenek megvan az ára
Bankár fiúk autóban ülve
Hajléktalanok falnak dőlve
Az egyik whiskeyt jéggel
A másik egy kiflivéggel
Én meg a gitár húrjait
Tépem éppen
Aki nem vak annak tiszta a kép
Vesszen az ember éljen a gép
Egy napon majd eljön biztos hát
Üdvöz légy digitális Krisztus
Az égen a gép a gyomrába’ bomba
Lángol a város a házak romba dőlnek
Emberek embereket ölnek
Aki nem vak látja mi a lényeg
Annak tiszta a kép
Kötélen táncol az élet
Alatta tátongó szakadék
Aki nem vak látja mi a lényeg
Ide nyaralni járnak az idegen lények
Az égben az ISTEN a földön az ÖRDÖG az úr
És mind a kettő beszél magyarul
A keresztet mindenki hordja
A civilizáció Babilon tornya
Épül aztán összedől végül
Aki nem vak látja mi a lényeg
Annak tiszta a kép
Kötélen táncol az élet
Alatta tátongó szakadék
Aki nem vak
Annak aki nem vak
Mondom annak
Aki nem vak
