Music Monday

Music Monday: Forradalom by Kozmosz

Music Monday is a meme that was created by Drew from The Tattooed Book Geek. Bjørn and I will pick a song alternatively on each Monday and share our thoughts about them. Timy’s pick this week is Forradalom by Kozmosz.

Thoughts and Ramblings

I can’t believe I never featured Kozmosz before in Music Monday. It’s a crime. But what could be a better day to to pick a song from them, than this beautiful Monday? We are a day after a historical general election, in which Hungary finally said no to Viktor Orbán, and we can hopefully start to heal all the shit he and his government caused us in the past 16 years.

But back to Kozmosz. They are one of my favorite Hungarian bands, and not just because I know two of the band members personally. I also like their music and lyrics, which are heavily political and very critical to the government party – well, the ex government party as it turns out. I went to their concert on Saturday, and I also felt like listening to their music when I woke up this morning, feeling proud again to be Hungarian. I picked Forradalom, which translates to Revolution, because 1) I like this song and 2) we just had a revolution, sort of, at least this time there weren’t any weapons and blood shedding. This song was released on their first EP, 13 years ago, so it’s not a very new one, but it’s about slowly loosing the hope for something better. And needed something like a revolution to get out of the funk and to feel the hum of the hymn again inside of us.

Song Lyrics

nézem a falat
ez maradt
felőrlődtünk az évek alatt
egy kicsit
de nem vidít fel a talán

múlnak az évek
de nem szépek
a kilátások és a régi képek
a falon
forradalom kéne már

nem csinálnék semmit szívesen
himnusz már nem zúg idebenn
töredékekből semmi épül fel
ami rég volt, nem rég múlt el
mindenki énekel.

a falakat nézed
ha lesz pénzed
megveszed majd és kész a részed
de marad
a szar zene, a béke vár

élj a mának
már várnak
a szakemberek, akik beléd látnak
egy álmot
de nem látják, hogy vége már

nem csinálnék semmit szívesen
himnusz már nem zúg idebenn
töredékekből semmi épül fel
ami rég volt, nem rég múlt el

mindenki énekel.
