10 Weeks Book/Music Challenge

I’m trying to do something fun for the next couple of weeks to get some more content on my Instagram account. You know the 30 Days Song Challenge? I’m going to use that as prompt, though I’ll be picking liberally. For the next 10 weeks, each Monday, I’m going to pick one prompt and post one song and one book picture based on it.

This week’s prompt: A song you remember from your childhood

My song choice: 8 Óra Munka / 8 Hours for Work by Beatrice

My book choice: Vuk by István Fekete (for more info, visit my Instagram account)

Thoughts and other ramblings

First off, sorry for the quality of the video, that’s the best I could find. It was shot in the early 90’s and looks like it was only uploaded through old TV recordings. Anyway. In the past couple of days I’ve been listening to old and new Hungarian hit songs. 8 óra munka used to be one of my biggest favourite as a child. Though now that I’m an adult I realize that it’s not exactly a child friendly song, lol. But it had a damn catchy refrain and at the time you could hear it literally everywhere and so of course I had to sing it as loud as I could. Which I imagine must have been hilarious to witness. Or hurtful as I don’t really have a good singing voice. Either way, I have fond memories of this one.

Lyrics (English Translation)

The work has ended, you are coming out from the factory
You are strong and brave from (a bottle) of vodka
A drunk guy is reaching for your hand
You don’t know why, you kick him hard

’cause you lost your patience
But it’s free to kiss, free to dance
Hundred years ago in Paris it had been good
The commune gave a rope for this

Eight hours for working,
Eight hours for resting
Eight hours for fun

Eight hours for working,
Eight hours for resting
Eight hours for fun

In the pub, there is big life
The mind is getting blurred, the knives are pointy
The air is full with scent of cheap beer
You are tired of this fucking world

Eight hours for working,
Eight hours for resting
Eight hours for fun

Eight hours for working,
Eight hours for resting
Eight hours for fun

I’m eating cottage cheese with onion,
I can’t handle with the auger…

But the work has ended, you are coming out from the factory
You are strong and brave from (a bottle) of vodka
A drunk guy is reaching for your hand
You don’t know why, you kick him hard

You are watching, what is going on here
That flows in, it flows out immediately
From the light beer, your mouth is so sour
Nobody promises, a better life is waiting for you

Eight hours for working,
Eight hours for resting
Eight hours for fun

Eight hours for working,
Eight hours for resting
Eight hours for fun
