Music Monday is a meme that was created by Drew from The Tattooed Book Geek. Bjørn and I will pick a song alternatively on each Monday and share our thoughts about them. Bjørn’s pick this week is Don’t Leave by Faithless.

Oh yeah? You know Faithless? Name their third single. The double punch of ‘Salva Mea’ and ‘Insomnia’ was followed with a gorgeous soul/indie pop ballad sang by equally gorgeous Jamie Catto. It was also politely ignored. Over the course of two monster hits, Faithless became pigeonholed before the third arrived and didn’t quite connect with the stadium house fans. Or most other people, really. Except me. The first Faithless album is actually a very varied record, which is probably why it flopped.
The band learned their lesson and avoided becoming a two-hit wonder, returning with ‘God is a DJ’ and ‘We Come 1’ and other songs you know. Catto also learned his lesson and left to start his own project, 1 Giant Leap, more about which in two weeks.

Packing your bags like people in the movies do
All severe and not saying a word
And I’m sitting down here just watching you
And I’m thinking
Where has all the love gone?
Where’s the love gone to?
Don’t leave
You got me hurting, don’t leave
You know it’s never been easy to love someone like me
(Oh, don’t leave)
Hanging with friends like we used to do
I didn’t know anything was wrong
And last night, well, I was thinking it through
Trying to find who am I and what d’you need me to do?
(Don’t leave)
There’s a record you used to play
There’s Joni singing: “Bed’s too big without you”
And I know just what she’s singing for
Where did all the love go?
(Where did all the love go?)
Where’s the love gone to?
Don’t leave
You got me hurting, don’t leave
You know it’s never been easy to love someone like me
Don’t leave
Where did all the love go?
Where’s the love gone to?
(Don’t leave)
We’ll fly around the world
Give you what you’re giving me
I should dress you up in pearls
Finest silk to touch your skin
Don’t know how to write a love song
But don’t leave
You got me hurting, don’t leave
You know it’s never been easy to love someone like me
Don’t leave
Don’t leave
(Don’t leave)
(Don’t leave)
