Music Monday

Music Monday: Annie by Anthonio

Music Monday is a meme that was created by Drew from The Tattooed Book Geek. Bjørn and I will pick a song alternatively on each Monday and share our thoughts about them. Bjørn’s pick this week is Annie by Anthonio.

Thoughts and Ramblings

The last time you saw me on Music Mondays, you actually saw ‘Anthonio’ by Annie – together with the plot twist in the lyric, ‘It may come as a surprise/My baby has your eyes’. Well, she received a reply in form of ‘Annie’ by Anthonio – Anthonio J. Mendes if you’re a stickler to details. Both deserve a listen, ideally one after the next, although Mendes’ vocals aren’t quite good enough to make me a fan. The idea though. Imagine a song called ‘Taylor Swift’ by Tim McGraw and you might understand why I’m a fan of both. (This also includes Taylor Swift, so technically I’m a fan of three out of four.)

I transcribed those lyrics myself and Anthonio has quite an accent, so there might be mistakes. YouTube’s auto-transcript gave up apart from a few sentences.

PS. Anthonio is SUCH a man.

Song Lyrics

Oh Annie, I remember
How could I forget
The night through an ocean of faces
We met
The sound of the drums all around us
The music carried us away
But all what we shared was
No more than a fair attempt

Annie (oh oh oh)
Please don’t you love me
Don’t hold on to the dream
‘cos it’s not what it seems, oh
Annie (oh oh oh)
Don’t think of what could be
Hand in hand to believe
That it’s not you, it’s me, oh

I never meant to hurt you
I thought you were thinking the same
Only two heartbeats to play
A game
See, I only live for the moment
This part made of passion and fire
Selfish, I know, but it keeps me
Alive

Annie (oh oh oh)
Please don’t you love me
Don’t hold on to the dream
‘cos it’s not what it seems, oh
Annie (oh oh oh)
Don’t think of what could be
Hand in hand to believe
That it’s not you, it’s me, oh

Oh, oh oh oh

(I told you maybe it was just one night)

Annie (oh oh oh)
Please try to forget me
Don’t hold on to the dream
‘cos I’m not what I seem, oh
Annie (oh oh oh)
I hope you’ll be happy
And the boy that you’ll see
will be better than me…
