This is Queen’s Book Asylum’s main SPFBO Champions’ League page, where you’ll find a short heads up about the contest, info about our process, the 10 champions – including GR and universal links -, our process, and updates throughout the competition.
The Self-Published Fantasy Blog Off is hosted by none other than Mark Lawrence, author of several highly successful Fantasy novels. Normally, 300 books compete, judged by 10 blogs, and at the end of 11 long, bloody months, 1 winner will emerge. However, since the competition has already seen 10 champions, this year we have a special edition called Champions’ League! All ten previous winners compete to see who will take the crown. You can find every detail on Mark’s SPFBO page along with the process of all 10 blogs.
We are a bit sad that we don’t get to meet some new gems this year, but on the other hand, we are totally excited to see who is going to be victorious in this epic battle!
The Champions’ League will last from June 1st to December 20th, although we are going to aim to have all of our reviews out by early December. Our general process will be pretty much the same as in any normal final phase, so you can expect our reviews every two-three weeks starting sometime in June. In accordance with the slightly changed rules, there aren’t going to be any public scores from us, only written reviews. I say public, because we are going to have them still to help us determine a ranking among the champions. Since previous reviews are allowed to be used, you might find some of them familiar (I sure as hell will use my old ones, thank you very much), although we’ll make sure to note if they are old or new.
There is going to be a DNF rule in place as usual, although, again, slightly changed: if a judge reads a book (assuming they didn’t opt out beforehand), they have to read at least 50% of it. We are in the Champions’ League after all. However, I’m not as cruel to make anyone suffer, so they’ll be allowed to quit sooner, but a review will be required from everyone, regardless of where they decided to DNF.
As usual, we are doing this with a team, and once again, we have slight changes in the lineup, including old hands and new faces. Queen’s Book Asylum’s team will have the following people: Arina, Drew, Filip, Rari, Tru, and Timy.
