Music Monday

Music Monday: Too Much Blood by The Gaslight Anthem

Music Monday is a meme that was created by Drew from The Tattooed Book Geek. Bjørn and I will pick a song alternatively on each Monday and share our thoughts about them. Timy’s pick this week is Too Much Blood by The Gaslight Anthem.

Thoughts and Ramblings

It’s lucky that the first Music Monday post of 2026 fell into my hands, as I have a very lovely tradition. On New Year’s Eve, after midnight, I pick up my player/phone and let Spotify pick one random song from my playlist, which then becomes my song of the year. In 2026, that choice fell on Too Much Blood, which just felt like a sign. My first (and so far only) tattoo was partly inspired by another The Gaslight Anthem song, Handwritten. I’ve been sitting on the idea of getting a second one for a few years now, and it feels like this might be the year for that. We’ll see. I also put this song on my WIP’s playlist. Let’s hope I can put if not too much blood, but at least a lot of words on the page this year.

As for Too Much Blood, it was released on what I think is one of the best albums out there, Handwritten. Seriously, if you only listen to one album this year, then that should be it.

Song Lyrics

Are you scared this sounds familiar?
What if everybody knew the very trials and temptations
That we put ourselves through?
Now I am no angel but I got nothing to hide
Can you say the same thing for yourself tonight?

What can I keep for myself if I tell you my hell?
What would be left to take to my grave?
And what’s left for you, my lover to save?
What’s left for only you to take?
If I put too much blood on the page
If I put too much blood on the page
And if I just tell the truth are there only lies left for you
If I put too much love on the page?

Now as my eternal witness to the pride and the shame
Are you worried I say too much?
Are you scared they’ll take me away?
Now I am no devil but I’ve got things on my mind
And they’re gonna come out and they’re gonna come up time to time

What can I keep for myself if I tell you my hell?
What would be left to take to my grave?
And what’s left for you, my lover to save?
What’s left for only you to take?
If I put too much blood on the page
If I put too much blood on the page
And if I just tell the truth are there only lies left for you
If I put too much blood on the page?

What can I keep for myself if I tell you my hell?
What would be left to take to my grave?
And what’s left for you, my lover to save?
What’s left for only you to take?
If I put too much blood on the page
If I put too much blood on the page
And if I just tell the truth are there only lies left for you
If I put too much blood on the page?

If I put too much blood on the page
If I put too much blood on the page again
