Music Monday is a meme that was created by Drew from The Tattooed Book Geek. Bjørn and I will pick a song alternatively on each Monday and share our thoughts about them. Timy’s pick this week is Nothin’ But A Good Time by Poison.

It wasn’t planned, but as it happens, this is my birthday week AND also my turn to pick a song for Music Monday. I was thinking how to approach this – pick a song from my favorite band? That would have worked, but I picked a Breaking Benjamin song very recently. Pick a song I love? I honestly already picked most of them, and nothing came up recently that I would choose for this particular occasion. So I decided to look up hit songs that came out in 1988 (and I guess now I just revealed my age). Poison released their Open Up And Say… Ahh! album in May, 1988, so it’s actually a few months younger than me, ha!
I’m not going to pretend and say I’m a Poison fan, but I know a couple of their songs, and I wanted something upbeat, so Nothin’ But A Good Time feels like a good choice to me. Also, this album has Every Rose Has Its Thorn which I love.

Now Listen
Not a dime, I can’t pay my rent
I can barely make it through the week
Saturday night I’d like to make my girl
But right now I can’t make ends meet
I’m always working slaving every day
Gotta get away from that same old same old
I need a chance just to get away
If you could hear me think this is what I’d say
[Chorus]
Don’t need nothin’ but a good time
How can I resist
Ain’t looking for nothin’ but a good time
And it don’t get better than this
They say I spend my money on women and wine
But I couldn’t tell you where I spent last night
I’m really sorry about the shape I’m in
I just like my fun every now and then
I’m always working slaving every day
Gotta get away from that same old same old
I need a chance just to get away
If you could hear me think this is what I’d say
[Chorus]
You see I raise a toast to all of us
Who are breaking our backs every day
If wanting the good life is such a crime
Lord, then put me away
Here’s to ya
[Chorus x3]
